Midnight Moon Garden

I finished this piece in September of 2011. It is painted in watercolors on hot pressed watercolor paper.

The "Midnight Moon Garden" was inspired by the night blooming flowers of summer and the beautiful insects that grace us with their presence during this time. I had seen moon flowers and thought they were a wonderful plant. Similar to morning glories, but white and blooming at night. I thought how they would make a wonderful subject in a painting. I've also always loved the beauty of Luna Moths with their bright green color and graceful shape. I thought it would make the perfect centerpiece. Everything is cast in a blue light, like that of nights with a full moon. The curving stone walkway was inspired by my own front walk which goes between two areas of our yard, which we are transforming into gardens.
