The Devil Costume Design - Shot 3

The Devil Costume Design

Victoria Chapman © 2004 - The Devil Costume Design & Creation

This costume was created for use with my Tarot card, The Devil (seen here).
These are extra photos from the shoot to show the details of the costume. The initial design was inspired by the intricate masks I had seen in shops in New Orleans a few months previous. I wanted to portray the devil a little differently, a little more beautiful and frightening in a more mysterious and artistic way than most Tarot decks do.

The mask was created with a plastic base and built off of using a frame of steel wire, tape, and paper. From there, the whole thing was paper machéd, painted the solid silver, and then painted with the detailed spots with the addition of some red crystals.

My model, Ross Sullivan-Wiley was very cooperative as I painted him from head to waist with silver body paint and details drawn in with body paint and a variety of eyeliner pencils. The shoulder frame was made form steel wire and black and burgundy fabrics. The loin clothe is also made from the same black and burgundy fabrics.
